WMI Acupuncture School Library

Library
The WMI library is located at the WMI Main Campus in ʻĀina Haina. The collection focuses on the college's disciplines: Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Taoism, Chi Kung, and Herbal Medicine. The majority of the books are in English, but the library also contains a small collection of books in Japanese and Chinese. The Chinese collection was donated by the President of the WMI and includes some rare and out of print texts of Taoist classics.

The library also includes a small collection of journals, audio-visual materials and student research papers. The library website includes links to the library catalog, research guides to other local libraries, and library information and policies. 

Copyright Guidelines

World Medicine Institute Library recognizes and respects intellectual property rights and therefore promotes compliance with copyright law and understanding of the appropriate use of copyrighted works.

It is the responsibility of all WMI faculty, staff and students to make a good faith determination as to whether their use of copyrighted materials constitutes fair use. The following guide has been developed to assist with the determination of fair use but should not be construed as a substitute for legal advice, not is this resource comprehensive on the subject of copyright.

The following materials are NOT protected under U.S. Copyright law:

  • Works that lack originality
  • logical, comprehensive compilations (like the phone book)
  • unoriginal reprints of public domain works
  • Works in the public domain

The simple absence of a copyright notice does not mean that a work is in the public domain. The general rules for determining whether a work is in the public domain are as follows:<

  • Works published on or before December 31, 1922 are in the public domain.
  • Works published between January 1, 1923 and December 31, 1978, inclusive, do not become public domain for 95 years from the date of publication, so long as the there is a copyright notice and copyright owner also renewed the copyright term.
  • Works published after 1978 do not become public domain for 70 years from the date the author dies (called, "life of the author" plus 70 years).
  • &quot;Freeware&quot; software
  • U.S. Government works
  • Facts
  • Ideas, processes, methods, and systems described in copyrighted works
